About PECANS
PECANS
(Postgraduate and Early Career Academics Network of Scholars) is a network
of research students and early career academics working in
the
fields of Law, Gender and Sexuality, broadly conceived! Anyone who would
define themselves as either a research student or early career academic
(up to around 5 years post-doc) is very welcome to join in with PECANS. PECANS
is funded by the ESRC, under an international training and networking
opportunities for early career
scholars
grant from
1 October
2009.
The ESRC funding for PECANS includes funding for two international workshops, one hosted at the University of Westminster in spring 2010, and one hosted by the Centre for Feminist Legal Studies at UBC, Vancouver in summer 2011. Also supported by this funding stream are a number of visiting fellowships for graduate research students and early career academics, to support visits to CentreLGS@Kent and the GSL research group at Keele. In addition to these activities, PECANS is also creating a committee to take a more active role in developing the network, and will be re-developing this website.
PECANS was founded by the AHRC Research Centre for Law, Gender and Sexuality, which ran from 2004 - 2009 and involved a partnership between the Universities of Keele, Kent and Westminster. CentreLGS continues at the three partner instiutions, and PECANS continues to be supported by these three institutions.
The PECANS website is host to the PECANS Directory, an online database of postgraduate research projects and research supervisors in the LGS field. If you are either a postgraduate research or early career academic working in the law, gender and sexuality field (broadly defined), do add your details to the research directory. Equally, if you are an established academic with research interests in the field, we encourage you to add your details to the supervisor directory. We also have the PECANS forum, where you will be able to discuss research problems or issues, and post information about events which may be of interest to PECANS members. Don't forget to check our events page regularly - we post information about events relevant to postgraduate and early career scholars in the LGS field. If you are organising an event and would like your event information listed on this site, then please don't hesitate to contact Rosie Harding on r.harding@law.keele.ac.uk.
The resources section has a wealth of
useful documents, video clips and web links for research students and early
career academics.
